We are inspired by the achievements of Black people in history. We are especially grateful for the Black pioneers and innovators in the cleaning industry who have invented many of the tools and techniques that we use today.
We congratulate:
- Thomas W. Stewart– who patented an improved mop in 1893 inventing a clamping device that could wring out the mop head without using the hands.
- Thomas Elkins– African American dentist who In 1872 invented the modern-day toilet. Without Elkins bathroom breaks certainly wouldn’t be as comfortable.
- Alice H. Parker- patented a gas-powered heating furnace in 1919 which was able to regulate the temperature in different rooms of a building.
- Lonnie G. Johnson– invented a thermoelectric energy converter that exchanged heat into electricity. He also created the Super Soaker water gun in 1982 one of the most loved and best-selling toys in the world.
We give thanks to their ingenuity and creativity.
As we celebrate Black History Month we recognise and appreciate the diversity of our own hardworking staff and thank them for their dedication and commitment.
Together, we can make a difference and create a cleaner brighter and more equitable future for everyone.
