SMC Premier Group’s Support And Quick Adaptation In A Nationwide Crisis

SMC have provided Cleaning Services to a national cosmetic surgery group which has 20 hospitals and clinics across the UK for over 5 yrs. We provide Theatre, Clinic, Ward and Office Cleaning for our client, 7 days per week, 365 days per year. We also provide Care Quality Commission (CQC) Clinical Cleaning services in line with NHS standards which includes weekly auditing with CQC assessors on site ensuring CQC compliance.

During the Covid-19 pandemic this clients’ hospitals were seconded by the NHS to help manage the influx of Covid-19 and any non-Covid-19 patients.

SMC had to adapt in line with new Covid-19 Secure protocols provided by the NHS/ Public Health England for our services which included new schedules, inspections, and SLA’s. Due to the nature of the disease there was also an additional PPE requirement for staff, bi-daily temperature tests for staff and new auditing protocols in line with CQC and daily auditing requirements to ensure compliance in the epidemic.

SMC carried out a bespoke new risk assessment as our activities had significantly changed and also as part of this included special measures for ensuring the mental health and well being of our staff in an everchanging, high-risk and highly emotive pandemic. Due to the nature of Covid-19, visits to the hospitals were very restricted so we were innovative in our approach to ensure the wellbeing of our staff by increasing communication (by video calls) and asking them to fill out weekly questionnaires in relation to this so we can identify any people at risk or just feeling overwhelmed by the whole situation. 

We provided additional training methodologies governed by NHS, CQC and British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSc) which included weekly toolbox talks provided by the NHS in relation to their regularly updated risk assessments and control measures – as these were ever changing as they learnt more about Covid-19.  

In consultation with the client, we recommended disinfectant fogging and a regime of high touch point frequent cleaning. The client approved our recommendations, and we are doing twice daily fogging of all areas to ensure full decontamination and a high touch point cleaning regime. Due to our specialist cleaning experience, we already had all the equipment, training, and operational procedures to carry out this.
